With the advances in residential based broadband services, treatments using neurofeedback for insomnia and anxiety now are becoming more convenient and affordable.
“Insomnia patients who are sleep deprived for two nights are actually more impaired behind the wheel than a drunk driver”, says Dr. David Dubin, MD, medical director for the Sleep Recovery Centers, Inc. “With at home tele-neurofeedback, patients need not leave the house at all for their insomnia treatment”.
So far, the results are encouraging. The patient receives an all inclusive system via UPS, connects the laptop to their home wifi connection and communicates with a medically supervised technician over an HD skype audio/video feed. The technician also stays present for questions or to make protocol adjustments throughout the entire treatment session.
One software engineer we talked to in Chicago stated, “Having a 10 hour workday and commuting another 30 minutes home, this by far was the less stressful choice”. He has since completed the program and seems pleased with the results.
And although most insurance policies won’t cover the cost of treatment, interest-free monthly payment programs are now available. “Affordability is a key factor” says Dubin, with economy still struggling, it makes more sense to break up the payments to accommodate the family budget.
